The European Magnetism Association (EMA) awards every three years the Dominique Givord Award for Advancing Magnetism in Europe to an excellent Scientist, who has significantly helped to push forward magnetism research and the magnetism community in Europe.
EMA's highest award goes to Oliver Gutfleisch for Mastery of Hysteresis of magnetic materials for energy efficient technologies, including permanent magnets and magnetocaloric materials, making magnetism-based energy conversion sustainable.

Prof. Dr. Dr. Sanjay Mathur

Prof. Mathur was newly seated as president of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) during the Materials Science & Technology (MS&T 22) meeting and exhibition, held October 9-12 in Pittsburgh. In the 124 years old history of the Society, he is the first President from Germany.
During his term as president, Mathur plans to “refocus and reframe” the role of international members within ACerS, with talent pool, topical diversity, and global partners serving as guiding topics for future initiatives.
“I think 2023 is going to be a turning point,” he said during the Annual Business Meeting on Monday, Oct. 10.

Prof. Olivier Guillon, has been elected as a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society. The certificate was presented to him at the Materials Science & Technology (MS&T 22) conference in Pittsburgh, which took place from October 9 to 12.
During the conference, Prof. Guillon spoke with other Jülich colleagues on the topic of "Unique Performance of Thermal Barrier Coatings Made of Yttria Stabilized Zirconia at Extreme Temperatures (> 1500 °C)" and on "Flash Sintering: A Paradigm Shift for Processing of Ceramics".

Dr. Mishra received the Best Paper Award 2021 of the Journal of the American Ceramic Society for his paper titled “Development of a processing map for safe flash sintering of Gadolinium-doped Ceria”. The selection was based on recommendations by the editors and reviewers of the journal. The award was presented at the MS&T 22 meeting in October 2022 in Pittsburgh.

Dr. Mishra received the Excellence Award from Forschungszentrum Jülich for his essential insights into the development of novel electric field-assisted sintering technologies during his doctoral studies.
Since 2009, Forschungszentrum Jülich has awarded the Jülich Excellence Prize, which is endowed with 5,000 euros in each case, once a year to internationally successful young scientists whose ideas provide essential insides in their field of research and who are among the top five percent of their career stage in their respective field.

Dr. Apurv Dash has started as an assistant professor for ceramics at Denmark Technical University in Copenhagen from 1 August 2022. He is working in the Department of Energy Conversion and Storage: https://www.energy.dtu.dk/
He received his PhD from IEK-1 (https://www.fz-juelich.de/en/iek/iek-1) on the synthesis and processing of MAX phases and focused as a post-doc on the effect of electric fields on the sintering and creep of ceramics within the DFG priority progamm “Fields Matter”.

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Rheinheimer has been appointed assistant professor for interfaces in functional ceramics at RWTH Aachen University as of June 15, 2022. There he is based at the Institute of Mineral Metallurgy and will teach in the field of ceramic materials for energy applications. Prof. Dr. Rheinheimer will continue his research in the field of interfaces in Li, H and O conducting ceramics.
